Neighborhood overviewThere is so much to see and do on a trip to Swindon, a diverse and unique Wiltshire town with a wonderful choice of culture, entertainment, shopping and more. Swindon offers brilliant access to the Cotswolds and to the rest of Wiltshire - but make sure you leave plenty of time to explore the town itself.
From toddlers to teenagers, there are plenty of activities and attractions to appeal to families in Swindon. Take a ride on a locomotive during an open day at the Swindon and Cricklade Railway, marvel at the stunning butterflies at Studley Grange Butterfly World or even arrange to go horse riding nearby with Rein and Shine. Older children will enjoy exploring the precursors to today's iPhones, Xboxes and VR at the Museum of Computing.
Immerse yourself in Wiltshire's history in Swindon. Discover our industrial past at STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway as you explore the story of the men and women who built, operated and travelled on the Great Western Railway. Or step back in time at Lydiard Park, a stunning Palladian stately home situated amongst beautiful gardens and formal parkland. If you're in search of culture, catch a play at Swindon's Wyvern Theatre.
At McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Swindon you can discover a quality mix of High St and Designer brands, all housed in the beautifully renovated Grade II listed buildings of the Great Western Railway Works. With a variety of restaurants and cafes available at the outlet, this is the perfect place to spend a day indulging in some serious retail therapy!
There’s also the famous Uffington White Horse nearby which a prehistoric hill figure of a horse made from crushed white chalk. Immediately below this is Dragon Hill, both of which are very popular local attractions.
You will find a wide variety of restaurants, pubs and cafes to try during your visit to Swindon. Head out of town to the nearby village of Bishopstone where you will find Helen Browning's Royal Oak, serving generous locally-sourced organic food.
